  9. I have a number of sites so it’s important for me to choose the correct plugin, one that works, so I don’t have to go back and make changes.

Mobile site plugins have become a chore for me, a trial and error project.

The first one I tried was WordPress Mobile Pack which worked fine until they discontinued a related site called Percentage-Mobile. I discovered this by accident as my sites were not fully loading. The problem was that Percentage-Mobile site was closing (July 31, 2012) and that portion of the plugin had to be disabled and finally, a little late, an update showed up. I didn’t like the way this was handled so I moved on. You have to know your sites are functioning at all times and this caused me too much heartburn.

Next up was WP Mobile Detector. A real nightmare for me as this plugin was showing false site visits (I discovered this in Statcounter – – > Visitors Path) where there was no reference from site origination to my site(s) but visits were replicating. I wrote this up on the WP forum and also went to the authors site and sent them an internal email. After 72 hours there was no response to the related problem. My host verified the problem and fully concurred with my analysis that WP Mobile Detector plugin was causing the issue. This issue is noted at the WP forum for this plugin.

Now I’m using WPtouch. The developers of this plugin are active, have over 3M downloads and are up to date on the current WP version. I’m still testing my sites at MobiReady and making adjustments to my WP sites.

Keep in mind that none of these plugins will cure all issues but you at least don’t want peripheral issues like the one’s I’ve described above. You can only test and keep an eye on your stats.

If you have access to several mobile devices, an IPhone or Android and at least one tablet then you can test live instead of relying on something like MobiReady only. I do recommended MobiReady but brace yourself for some work if you really want to improve your site(s).

I’m not sure if WPtouch resizes images automatically, I’m working to determine that. The settings options didn’t specify this but I imagine this would be part of the transition or conversion from WP to mobile.

Many hosts and third parties are offering GoMobi but it’s pricey if you have multi-sites. Everything is on a monthly per site basis and no packages are offered to my knowledge. You must go through third-party sellers for this option. I wrote to my host about this and they said it’s so new that a package deal may be in the future. For now it’s plugins.

  10. I actually use the same desktop WordPress theme as this blog (how ironic) and I have been contemplating whether or not I should add a mobile version to my site. I think that the desktop version is fine, but I want to make it most accessible to everyone. I’m mainly worried about my AdSense units and the amount of customization I will have. I have played with WP Touch in the past, but don’t like the lack of customization.

  11. My site is showing a desktop theme on PC. I’m using the wordpress mobile pack. But, it’s not auto detecting mobile sites despite that i have corrected the settings.

I tried MobilePress. it was showing the mobile view even on PC. Someone should pls help on this.

  12. Mobilepress is a nice plugin for mobile theme. I have also used it . To view click here from mobile.
