How To Increase Traffic For Your Website :

Some tips and ideas to help you with your online struggles.

Traffic is probably the first thing you thought of when you were starting your website or business. Indeed, in terms of opportunity, more traffic means a better future for your website, a brighter chance for good business. Learning how to increase traffic for your website isn’t something you’ll learn completely from this article, but you’ll find lots of suggestions and good ideas in this article. You’ll learn about metrics like unique visitors, page views, using social media and page optimization for getting more traffic, as well as a lot more.

As many of you know , traffic is what keeps sites and businesses running. Traffic may be generated by the new visitors that come to the site, or the ones that keep returning because they liked what they saw there the first time. It is a necessity to take the best measures to increase traffic , or keep it at levels that will make you successful at what you do.

But measuring traffic varies , there are different metrics used , and there’s too much confusion that accumulates around them.

The Different Metrics:

In the not-so-distant past of the web, people used to measure traffic with hits. A hit is basically when a user loads an element of a site (like a page, or an image) into their browser.  Additionally, each page may be different and generate more hits. So in the end you have no idea what happens if you judge by hits. Page views on the other hand show how much times pages were loaded from the site. And unique visitors are the number of particular people who viewed the site. In conclusion, you should judge more by the two latter characteristics, instead of “hits”.

Ways for increasing traffic:

These are really innumerable, and each of them could extend into lots and lots of more topics, but we’ll try to give you the basics, so you can just look the rest up later.

First and foremost we shall mention SEO.  For those of you who don’t know , SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization, and is vital in increasing traffic.  Now you might be wondering –“What exactly is there to optimize ? I paid good money for the design of this site , shouldn’t it be top-notch already?”. Well it may be, but it may not, as well.   Optimization is done on the separate – your site is made easier for search engines to find, better structured, even in the background of the code which the user doesn’t see. This is done in order to make it easier to find for people who are interested in what you have to offer. This will instantly boost sales and popularity for you, because your site will offer exactly what they need. But to do that, you need to be at the top positions of the search engine, and frankly, nowadays that’s nearly impossible without SEO.

Secondly, link building is worth mentioning. Some people consider it a part of SEO, while others  do not.  In any case, link build consists of adding links to your website. This could be done for several purposes. One of them is to create a way for new people to find out about your site, it’s a direct way of acquiring new visitors and getting more traffic.  And not only that – Google’s algorithm generally ranks your webpage higher if it has links from other, already known and popular websites. So you kill two birds with one stone – you drive new people directly to your site, while at the same time making it rank higher in search engines. Isn’t that great?

If you want to know particular ways of doing link building, you might try looking for:

  • Article submission
  • Forum posting
  • Guest blogging
  • Press releases
  • Social Networking

Our third option is the one that you’ve probably thought of already – Advertising.

It might not seem logical in this day and age, but advertising does bring out a lot of people , especially if done right. But keep in mind, you need to explore options for advertising – will it be by banners, or text ads ? Will it be contextual (like Google Ads or similar services) , or rather obtrusive and non-contextual. Have you considered offline marketing for your site ? These are all things that you need to think through. You may even need to hire a marketing expert.

Increasing traffic is possible, and practically achievable. But it does not happen in a day, and since things are dynamically changing, a person needs to keep in touch with new trends and methods of increasing traffic.
