WordPress installation is very simple and easy. The process is user friendly and does not take more than five minutes to complete. You can easily install WordPress in more than one way. If you want to start a blog in a few clicks you can use Softaculous or Fantastic auto installer. However if you desire customized installation, you can consider installing it yourself. Below is the detailed process of manual installation.
WordPress Installation: The Initial Set Up
Before the manual installation you need to have – Access to your web server via FTP or shell, an FTP Client and a text editor.
FTP or Shell – File Transfer Protocol or FTP will allow you to transfer files. It helps you to upload and download all the files to the server of your host.
FTP Client – FTP client is the interface that connects you to the host server. File Zilla and FireFTP are the two popular FTP client which is ideal for WordPress.
Text Editor – Text Editor is an essential element while you work on the codes. You need to have text editors that does not alter any of your inputs. Notepad for Windows and TextWrangler for Mac are the two most popular text editors. They are simple but very powerful.

FTP Login – Check and confirm your username and password for FTP access. The web address will be the same but it will be ftp://domain.com instead of http://domain.com
Control Panel Login – For setting up a database for WordPress you need to know how to access your hosting control panel or cPanel.
WordPress Installation: The Step by Step Procedure
Download and Unzip the Latest Release – WordPress is an open source platform that is constantly updated by its community members. So before downloading always check for the latest release of WordPress and then download it from http://wordpress.org/download/ . Once you have finished downloading then unzip the file.
Create the Database and a User – For installing WordPress you need to set up your MySQL database and create a username. This can easily be done from the control panel of the host. Login to your account and click on the MySQL database icon or link, whichever provided by your host. Then create your database and name the user. Once you name your database you’ll then have to put in a database host. Do remember the username and password as it will be required in the next step.
Edit and Set Up wp-config.php – In this step you’ll have to edit the file wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php to access your MySQL database. Open up the wp-config-sample.php on your text editor and change the values for your file installation. Here you’ll have to modify the database name, database username, database password and database host.
DB_NAME – Replace it by the name of your database as selected in the previous step.
DB_USER – Replace it with your MySQL username as defined in the previous step.
DB_PASSWORD – Replace it with the password as defined in the previous step.
DB_HOST – Determine the host name as defined in the previous step.
Once the editing is complete you need to create security keys. You can easily create one by using the security key generator and finally after all the task is completed, rename and save the file as wp-config.php.
Upload the Files – Login into your FTP client and look out for directory to install WordPress. If you want WordPress on the home page of your site install it in the root-directory otherwise on the sub-directory. Upload only the files in the WordPress folder. Do not upload the folder itself.
Run The Installed Script – To start the installation script come to the address bar of the web browser. If you have uploaded the WordPress files in the root directory enter http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php but if you have uploaded the WordPress files in the subdirectory called blogs then enter http://example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php in your web browser. You’ll then be addressed to the WordPress set-up page. Here you’ll have to enter your blog title, username, password and e-mail address. After you fill these blanks go down and click “Install WordPress”. You’ll successfully land on a page which displays your username and password and that completes your installation process.
